Pay attention to what Representative Lantos said during the hearing held to hear what General Patraeus and Ambassador Crocker had to say about the status of the war in Iraq. It is an outstanding example of how elected officials in government endeavor to intimidate the people who are responsible for doing the job into telling them what they want to hear. What Lantos is doing, and it is likely that the Executive has done the same, is what causes large scale program failure in both the private and public sectors.
Ultimately, if we are successful in Iraq, it will be due to leaders like Patraeus plainly and simply being allowed to do the job they were given to do in the first place.
